Franco's paternal grandmother, Marjorie (Peterson) Franco, is a published author of young adult books. Dave has stated that he is "proud" to be Jewish. Franco's mother is Jewish (of Russian Jewish descent) her parents had changed the surname from "Verovitz" to "Verne". Franco's father was of Portuguese (from Madeira) and Swedish descent. Her work is regarded as some of the best in the world.Franco was born in Palo Alto, California, to Betsy Lou ( née Verne), a poet, children's book author, and editor, and Douglas Eugene Franco (1948–2011), who ran a nonprofit agency and a business the two met as students at Stanford University. Since then, private clients have been added to her list. Until 2009, the majority of her work was for Purdey. Jeffery, William Evans, David Mackay Brown, Rigby and Purdey and in Europe for Lebeau Courally & Hartmann & Weiss. Then from her own studio she works for several English gun makers such as Westley Richards, W.J. Her illustrious career took her to Holland & Holland. At the end of her studies in 1984, Cécile started working at Francotte under the attentive eye and guidance of her mentor Philippe Grifnée. Instructed by René Delcour and Philippe Grifnée.
